My husband Gary is also a g-g-g-grandson of John Low of Savannah and Griffin, GA, and his wife Lavinia through their youngest daughter, Sarah. (They had one son, James, and three daughters, Margaret, Georgia Ann, and Sarah E. L. We had thought that old John likely had something to do with cotton, but were not sure. We do know that he was a river pilot and owner or part owner of at least one steamboat, that he was harbormaster at Savannah, and that he had considerable real estate interests. He died in Griffin in 1876 and is buried in Savannah next to Lavinia, who died in 1865. We would love to share further information. You can email us direct at email@example.com for now. We will be changing our email address soon, and will be happy to let you know as soon as we do. We are very much looking forward to hearing from you.
