Here's the text of a message I posted in the DeRossett forum a few days ago.I hadn't yet read these messages beginning "DeRossett 1685-1760".I was in Salt Lake a couple of years ago and DID check into all the books I could find about the DeRossett surname.I couldn't find any that connected with what I am looking for.Any help appreciated.Hi! I have probably the thinnest connection to the DeRossetts of anyone you'll come across. My 2nd great-grandfather was
Stephen Brindley (Brinlee, Brinley, Brenley). We believe he was born around 1814,MAYBE in SC. He married Mary (Polly)
Horton. We have him in a couple of Smith Co, TN censuses (1850 and 1860, I think, but I don't have my notes in front of me).
Family tradition has it that, in answering a question from his daughter (my great-grandmother) he said his mother "was a
DeRossett". We have always spelled it the way I typed it here (with or without the space in the middle). I have found a number
of Brindleys in Smith Co censuses from 1850-maybe 1880, and they're of an age that they could be Stephen's brothers or
cousins. One I believe I have connected definitely. If his mother WAS a DeRossett, she would have to have been born about
1780-1790, and no female DeRossetts I have seen so far online are back that far. I'm going to be in TN late next year on
vacation / genealogy research, and plan to try to track down any possible connection with DeRossett community east of
Sparta, White County. If anyone has any suggestions or possible connections, I'd sure like to hear it.
