I am also from the same lineage as Pierre Des Forges and have access to LOTS of information. A lady in Utah (also same lineage) has been in contact with my parents, she has been researching the family history for 40 years so she great knowledge of our ancestory. Pierre studied in London and obtained a Master of Arts degree before settling in a tiny village called Tothill in Lincolnshire where he became a Reverend at the church. There is so much to write, the lady in Utah will be online soon so I will direct her to this bulletin board. `A tale of Two Cities' the book by Dickens is supposed to make refence to Pierre and the man who smuggled him into this country, but the names have been altered slightly. We are at the same stage as Sue (Hawco). We have little to go on regarding Pierre's predecessors. This is quite fascinating though: I work for Van den Bergh Foods (part of Unilever) and I recently found someone with our surname on the Unilever e-mail system. It turns out that the man (Olivier) is the Vice chairman of Bestfoods Europe (Unilever have just taken over Bestfoods). Olivier told me that he has traced his lineage back to the 13th century. The family name was Des Forges de Caulliere (they were Counts) at this time, and used to live in the Picardie / Hainault area (Northern France) The name became Desforges in the 18th century and 2 of his ancestors were beheaded during the French Revolution. Olivier may or may not come frome the same lineage, I have to acertain this. Unfortuantely, when Unilever bought out Bestfoods, it was adjudged by the Monopolies and mergers commission that my own part of Unilever must be hived off, so I will lose contact with Olivier soon (I don't like pestering him for info because of the importance of his work anyway)
There is so much to say, and I guess that the lady from Utah will be contributing to this `conversation' as soon as she goes online. It is very exciting to know there are others looking into the exact lineage as ourselves. My father has suggested that those of us who live in England could get together (at a convenient location) sometime. The lady in Utah is coming over later this year also. Anyway, thats enough waffling for the time being. Best wishes Philip P.S I can't be reached on the e-mail address I have posted. I must have erased part of my software (or something) by accident.
