I have not researched the individuals you are looking for, however, if they were baptized Catholic you should find them in Southwest Louisiana Records.

Fr. Hebert published 41 volumes beginning with the year 1750 and ending with the year 1909.

Fr. Hebert and his volunteers recorded sacramental events from the Catholic Churches in the Diocese of Lafayette. He also published civil marriages and estates from the court houses in the area (13 civil parishes), regardless of race or creed.

The Evangeline Genealogical & Historical Society bought complete sets of SWLR for every branch of the Evangeline Parish Library system. Look for these in the library nearest you. Ask your librarian for help.

Most of our ancestors could neither read nor write. That is why names are so often misspelled. The priest or the clerk of court spelled the names the way they sounded. Since I am a French-speaking native of Evangeline Parish, LA, the names do not pose as big a problem for me as they do for those who do not speak the language.

Happy New Year,
