Isham Desper is my great x 6 grandfather and I have the family lineage traced back to his own grandfather. Here goes.Isham's father was Thomas Desper (Dashper is a variant) and the grandfather was John. Thomas's wife was named Mary and John was a widower. The earliest record of John is that he was one of the first settlers in Orange County, VA., the portion of which is now Louisa County. In 1731 John first appears as a landowner and we can follow him through until he dies in 1769. Isham's father, Thomas, then inherits the family plantation called "Mill View"...which has just been restored. John was granted the land by George II at least on two separate occasions. The Library of Virginia has the original Geo. II grant from 1753 and it is available on-line. We can't go back any further than Isham's grandfather because the records prior to 1731 were destroyed by federal forces when they burned Richmond. We ARE in process of getting a professional geneaologist in England to trace the family roots there. E-mail me with more...we'd love to have you come along!
