Need help for a puzzle I have been trying to solve for years.
François Demaison worked for the NWC (Northwest Company) he was a fur trader/voyageur.
He fought alongside the British in the War of 1812.
He was given land on Front Street on Drummond Island for his services.
A treaty was signed & Drummond Island was handed over to the Americans.
The British troops left Drummond Island for Penetanguishene, Simcoe, Ontario circa 1828.
François Demaison then had land in Penetanguishene where Ste Anne Church now stands & he drops off the face of the earth to me.
No records he died & thus he went where?
He had a county wife, a Native lady & at least one child named Archange Demaison born circa 1815-1816 on Makinac Island.
I contacted the Detroit Library to access the Burton Collection for baptism records etc. . . for this family & they have NONE.
I know Archange Demaison wed Henri Lemire at Penetanguishene on July 1 1833 by Andrew Mitchell JP this was noted in the Marriage Register of Upper Canada Home District Native records 1808-1836.
Archange went on to have several alliances & more children baptised under the name Demaison/Chevalier in that same area.
I can follow her line to today but WHAT HAPPENED TO HER FATHER?
I would like to find out who his family was, where was he born, when, was he ever married to another lady & did he have another family? Where & when did he die?
Can anyone help me with this puzzle?
