The is a small townland near Ballina by the name of Lettertrask where a line of Devers lived.
The tithe applotments of 1834 listed John Diver and Company as sole tennant of Lettertrask.
Griffiths 1856 valuation sowed Dennis, John, Anthony and Felim as lessors.
My uncle visited Lettertrask around 10 years ago and it was still occupied by Devers.
We don't know where John of the 1834 record came from (or his ancestors.
Of note, my grandfather came to Chicago in 1909 and changed his name to Dwyer. He stayed with an uncle who had come over previously who had also changed his name to Dwyer.
I have information from the North Mayo Family History Center that cites that the Dever and Devers of Mayo were a branch of the Diver families of Donegal.
According to Matheson's report on surnames in Ireland, 1894 there were 15 Dever (s) births in Ireland in 1890, 11 of which were in Connacht, principally Mayo.
I find it interesting that the 1834 tithe applotment listed my ancestor as John Diver and 22 years later it had become Devers
A couple of my grandfathers uncles/male cousins that didn't leave Ireland ended up in Crossmolina but most of the women married farmers in Derra, Richmond, Kiltane, Aughadoon, Creevy, Cloondaff and Carrowskeheen.
