Yes! I am so excited to find any early DeVilles in Louisiana. My Laurence ancestors in the New Orleans and Pineville, LA area include the DeVille family. I suspect the Laurence family were the Laurent family of Mobile, since they "appeared" in New Orleans around 1819 and the Laurent family is the logical source, considering the assertion of my grandmother that the Lawrences were all French, going way back. Please e-mail me any info on DeVilles from Louisiana on back to Mobile. Thanks a million, in advance! Also -- there is a book in the genealogy section of our library in Texas here (and I'm sure it's also in Louisiana) called "Gulf Coast Colonials" by Winston DeVille. There seems to be a typo, as Laurent Laurent is listed in page 45 but not in the index, and the DeVille name is absent from the contents of the book (unless it is one and the same as the DeVelle listed?). Several of the French marines who were stationed there hailed from La Rochelle, France.
