Still seeking info on this Devlin family, been searching long time with hardly any clues from the Devlin researchers, can anyone help? Bill Cook, Billcook44@aol.com http://cookshangout.com/cook.htmlhttp://cookshangout.com/cook.html ----------------------------------------------------- SARAH ANN PERMILLER (Sallie) DEVLIN (Full name from notes of Bertha Cook Thomas, sent to me by Geraldine Thomas Meadows) b: 1841-1842 in S.C. married Lambert Clayton "L.C." Cook in March 1856, this marriage was almost certainly in Buncombe Co. N.C.. Her father was Francis Devlin. "Our COOK Family story" goes that her mother died (Don't know what happened to father, maybe he just couldn't care for a 6 weeks old baby, and possibly had other children,) when she was 6 weeks old and an elderly lady (may have been related to Francis Devlin) took care of her until she was age 7, at which time Sarah found the elderly lady dead in bed. She was then taken in by a wealthy neighbor family by the name of ROUNDTREE, who kept her until she was about (14?) (age could possibly have been 9 as family stories change over the years?). I have found a Francis Devlin and family from Abbeville, SC, who had a female child with the initials SAP born 1841 in SC, and all their movements fit with Sarahs life and marriage, but this COOK family story on Sarah doesn't fit exactly. This Devlin families female SAP was with them in Buncombe Co. NC. in 1850 census according to my contact on that family. I guess it could be that her father Francis sent for when she was about (14?, this could have been 9?) and she came home to Buncombe Co. NC. met my grt grandfather and they were married a few years later.
