My G-grandfather Martin Devlin came to the US on several occasions and did serve in WW I, though with the Scotts in the Black Watch. I have found that he came over first in 1908, left and returned again in 1917. He was one of 13 children (12 boys, one girl). His place of residence in Scottland is listed as Boness. I found this information from the Ellis Island website, and confirmed the dates with my grandfather James Thomas Devlin.
