I've just noticed your message about the Devlins. The majority of my devlins came from Ireland also although I'm not sure whereabouts. I to am looking for a James from Ireland. My james had a son called Bernard (my ggg grandfather) who married a Mgt Ford marriage place unknown. They then went on to have a son called Edward (my gg grandfather) who was born in the Shettleston area of Glasgow. He went onto marry Rebecca Duffy. I found a lot of the details sadly from grave stones in High Blantyre where I know that they stayed according to the census forms. I have spent a day in the GRO Edinburgh (£17 day search) but unfortunately I am hitting brick walls. I did get a lot of info but none of the certificates states whereabouts in Ireland they came from. I do know (if your still in the Glasgow area) that the Mitchell library holds The POOR LAW INDEXES which is mostly of Irish Immigrants that had to seek help when they came over.
Feel free to email me directly if you need any help as I go to the GRO quite often.
Happy Hunting and Good Luck. I have already found a cousin on this site looking for Devlins so I hope you have the luck
