Egbert Dewey of Michigan

By Kelly White August 02, 2008 at 07:05:40

I am searching for descendants of Egbert Dewey, born in 1814-Massachusetts and died in 1879-Wyoming, Michigan.Children included Alice Holt, Chester W. Dewey, Walter Egbert Dewey and Charles E. Dewey. There were others howeever these are the only children who might have produced offspring.

Alice married Samuel Holt and is not known if she had any children before her death in 1883.

Chester had a son named Chester T. Dewey.Chester T. had children Frances and David S.This line went from Ohio to Oregon/Washington.

Charles E. died in St. Lake City, UT - unknown marriage or children.

Walter Egbert left Michigan for PA.He married a woman named Agnes and became a book publisher. They had a daughter about 1915 named Helen Agnes and the family made several trips to Bermuda for unknown reasons.Walter's mother Maria and her sister lived with Walter and when they died, he brought them to Wyoming for burial - at least as indicated on the family stone in the Grandville Cemetery.

I seek this information in regards to the local history of Wyoming, MI.This family was prominent throughout 1850-1880 as Egbert was a wealthy lumberman and large land owner. His history has been long overlooked and I wish to complete it.I am hoping to find a descendant who may a photograph of Egbert and/or his family.I am in possession of a couple photocopies of his wife's image and would be willing to share history and all.
