Re: Diehms Pioneers of KS - John Frederic Diehm & Anna M. Brueher; Mary Diehm & Samuel Walthall -
I am a descendent of Samuel White Walthall (b 4 Feb 1859, Fontana, KS; d 30 Feb 1931) who m. 2 Jan 1881 Mary Diehm (17 Oct 1854-Jun 1948). Mary Diehm was the daughter of Jacob F. Diehm, from Baden Germany 1857 [written on tombstone].
1870 Census Mound, Miami, KS:
Deihm (sic), Jacob F 40, Mary 30, Jacob F 12, Albert 10, Mary 7, Joseph 5, George E 3, Emma 1;
Diehm, John D 38, Anna C 28, James 10, Louisa 8, Charles 9, John 2.
Jacob & John were brothers who supposedly came together from Baden Germany to the US in 1857.
A Miami Co KS query in 1997 seems to conflate these 2 families. It reads: John Frederic (Fred) Diehm b 29 Aug 1820 Boden [Baden], Germany, State of Maltradingen [Malterdingen, State of Baden-Wuerttemberg] m Anna Mary Bruehrer b 9 Nov 1836 [d 18 Oct 1918]Boden [Baden] Germany. 8 Children: Fred (1857-1931), Albert (1858-1944), Joe (b 1860), Mary (1861-1946 m Samuel [White] Walthall), George Edward (1866-1952), Emma (1870-1939), Hattie Louise (1874-1962), Minnie (1877-1958).
Because of the mistakes in the query, & because it disagrees with the census, I presume it is mistaken.
I cannot find any record of what ship these Diehms came over on.
Does anyone have any info on the parents & ancestors of Jacob Frederic & John Diehm?
Thank you, Charles Walthall
