I have John Wesley Dihel as the son of Samuel Dihel Samuelborn Penn and died in 1840 Virginia or Indiana Samuel married 1810 to Nancy McDonald who was born 1788 in Scotland and died 1820either Virginia or Indiana
I cannot confirm nor deny the stories about the Dihel and James gang. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that the stories are true. Honestly they are the only family in Baxter CoI have read about thatassociatesclaim to it so maybe its true.
George W Dihel (1854-1879) is thought to have been associated with the James Gang. George's death in 1879 is still a mystery. Its told that some members of this Dihel family rode with Quantrel during the Civil War.The Ozarks was full of serious and deadlyactivity after the war---it was not a real safe place to be.
I wish I was more knowledgeable about Jesse James and his activites --maybe a person could figure out a time frame that might place him in, around or near the Baxter Co area. My Dadwas a fan of the old western magazines _True West -Old West-etc. I tried reading about Jesse a few times--the man seemed to be everywhere !!
Tell me what you know about the Dihel/James gang. I would be very interested in it.
