I would like to have some ideas or direction for locating a Dille family in the 1850/1860 era in the Will, Kankakee, Ford or Iroquois Counties in Illinois.
Proven facts:Rebecca Ludington was born in New York ca. 1825, parents were Lafayette and Mary Ann (Purdy) Ludington. She married ? Dille and was divorced or a widow by December 1861 when she married Jacob P. Pitcher in Kankakee County, Illinois.A male child was born March, 1862.He was named Jacob H. Pitcher and that surname continues to this day.A female child was born December 1850 and was named Mary Salina Dille. No proof has been found to document her as the daughter of Rebecca (Ludington) and ? Dille.Mary Salina Dille married William Dittus December 25, 1871 in Will County, Illinois.William Dittus was listed as a teacher on the 1870 census for Kankakee County, Illinois. On the 1880 census, Mary Dittus states that her father was born in Ohio.
A descendant of Jacob H. Pitcher's DNA was tested and it appears that he is a Dille, not a Pitcher, by his Y-DNA ancestry.
Family legend:Mary Salina Dille was daughter of Rebecca (Ludington) and John Dille. She is said to have been a teacher. It was said that she was born in Illinois, died in Illinois and was never out of the state.
Of course, she would not have been on the 1850 census but I cannot find her on the 1860 or 1870, either.
I am at a loss as to how to document Mary Salina Dille and her father.I have tried the census using every twist I can think of and searched everything available to me on the Internet.I welcome all ideas and suggestions.
