By genealogy.com user May 06, 2001 at 08:52:29

Ther is a book in the Cleveland Ohio plubic library genealogy dep, On the history of Dingess name it is a family book that was past down one to another .You ask how do i know this to be true be couse i had conversed over the phone with another Dingess man hear in Ohio while Looking into my genealogy ran acros his phone number and called him . At this time i was aware of the Dingess family book but did not say nothing to this man about it. We got to talking about the name Dingess after i explained whay i called him he was in his 70"s and in WW2 and had a brother that was in WW2 allso but to the book we were talking and he told of this book his father had left him about ther name Dingess but it was of little use becouse it was in german ! Thats whay i did not even mention the book in libary in clevland . So right thair was too of the same books around and both in german and very old .The man died and i had only a short time to talk to him and there # was disconnected and I never did find out what happened to the book but the one is still in the Cleve library so this one confirmed the other that they were published in germany and the faily originated somewhere in Westfallia Germany East of the Rhine the Dingess name was given from the occupation of wine...and the Greek god of wine vinyards is Dioniesis which translated in German is Dingess.
If you would like to inform me of any info please post it on ths page.
