Hi Paula, Samuel and Margaret were my great-great-grandparents.Samuel is the son of Andrew Ditto (1792-1851), who moved from Ohio to Mercer County IL.His wife was Ann Margaret Wyland (1797-1845).
Samuel was born in 1831. He married Margaret Seaton, b. Scotland 1822, in Mercer Co. in 1850.They had a large family:Ann, George, Margaret Isabel, and Samuel Duncan.Samuel died in 1907.Margaret died in 1893.
Samuel Duncan was born in 1851 in Mercer Co. and married Margaret Wheatley, who according to oral family history, had been orphaned and lived with various family as a hired girl. She was supposedly obsessively clean, and washed her dining room chairs in a bucket of water every single night after supper.Margaret was also from Illinois, b. 1853.The story is that they met in Galesburg IL where she worked for a well-to-do family.
Their children included: Seth Everett, b. April 19, 1872; Samuel Arthur (Artie), b. November 29, 1873; Edward Clay (Ed), b. February 1, 1877; Maggie May, (she went by May), b. February 10, 1879; Elizabeth Ann (Lizzie), b. October 18, 1881; Robert Angus (Bob), b. March 3, 1884; Emily Minerva, b. March 31, 1886; Johnnie Duncan, b. November 1, 1888; and Minnie Isabell, b. August 1, 1891.
Elizabeth Ann was my grandmother. She married John Bertram Bratcher in 1905.
I know the Samuel Duncan (he was called Dunk) and Margaret moved around some.My grandmother was born in Corning IA; I'm not sure when they ended up in MO.At one point they lived in Milo, MO; later they lived in Maryville, MO.
I have some photos, photostats of the Family Bible, etc. if you are interested.
