I am looking for anyone researching the family of William & Mary Dixon who left New Bern around 1798 for Sumner County TN.I descend from their son Matthew Dixon who married Polly Hill.It is my strong theory that William Dixon married Mary Brinson b. 1760, dau of Cason Brinson Jr and his wife Ann Fulcher.Cason Jr had a brother named Jesse J Cason (wife Keziah) who was the father of Daniel Brinson. When William Dixon left NC in 1798, he left his affairs in the hands of Daniel Brinson. Mary and Daniel were first cousins. Also, Mary Brinson had a brother named Benjamin who married Susannah Speight.Their daughter Nancy married Jedediah Dixon who was the son of William Dixon. Nancy Brinson Dixon's sister Anna b 1766 arried a Hasten Dixon who seems to come from a different line of Dixons (Draper, Chosewell, John, Walter). Hasten had a brother William who married a Lydia Caton, and she is found in a later Craven County census as widow Lydia Dickson.I believe her husband William is one of the Williams in the 1790 (2-2-1-0-1) census and the other one is my William (1-3-5-/8), but that is not enough information to identify my William.
Mary Brinson had a sister named Eunice. Her mother was named Ann.Her g grandfather and a first cousin were named Matthew. Her aunt was named Keziah. These are all names of William and Mary's children.
Despite these clues, I am still unable to learn the parentage of William Dixon. There are two William Dixon's in the 1790 New Bern, Craven County census as noted above, but this information has not helped.
I have found some "gifts" from William & Mary Dixon recorded in the Bedford County TN Courthouse recorded in 1818 before they died wherein they list children: Keziah, Eunice, Ann and Jedediah. There allegedly was a WILL which I cannot find. There was also a book written around 1940 on the descendants of Matthew Dixon which is so full of errors it is useless in my research. BTW that book lists the wife of my gg grandfather, John B. "Brushy" Dixon as Maranda Clemmons. Her actual last name was Fleming which can be proven by burial records of her sons in Moody, Howell County MO.
I would love some help from anyone researching this line and helping me to prove/disprove whether Mary Brinson is the Mary who married William Dixon. Lynnmarie Dixon (Don G. Dixon; Henry L. Dixon; James Madison Dixon; John B. "Brushy" Dixon; Matthew Dixon; William)
