HELP ! My research has turned up to conflicting ancestry lines which both identify as descending from Thomas Dockery Jr. (1770 - 1855) and Nancy Covington (1780 - 1861)
of Rockingham, Richmond, NC.
Lineage #1John Dockery (1806 - 1860) married Ann Mask
(1810 - 1864)This John Dockery is believed to be the son of Thomas Dockery, Jr. (1770 - 1855),by virtue of a letter dated 27 Feb 1898, hand written by Thomas C. Dockery (1826 - 1911) of Love Station,DeSoto CO., MS to Nydia Dockery - Forman (1860 - 1911) of Natchez, Adams Co., MS.
The letter was a letter of condolence, written following the death of Nydia's father,Confederate Brig. Gen. Thomas Pleasant Dockery (1833 - 1898).In the letter the
family relationship is identified.
John Dockery (1806 - 1860) married to Ann Mask (1810 - 1864) are buried in a family cemetery located in Lamartine,
Columbia Co., Arkansas.
This lineage has a migration from Queen Anne's Co., Maryland to Rockingham, Richmond Co., North Carolina, to
Hardeman Co., Tennessee, to Lamartine, Columbia Co., Arkansas.
Lineage # 2John Dockery ( 1804 - 1883) married to Mary
Bradburn (1810 - 1890).This John Dockery has been identified as being both the son of Thomas Dockery, Jr.
(1770 - 1855) and Nancy Covington (1780 - 1861) AND
being the son of Thomas Dockery, Jr. (1745 - 1805) and
Rebecca Crosnoe (1770 - 1805).This John Dockery through
the research is most probable the son of Thomas Dockery, Jr. (1745 - 1805) and Rebecca Crosnoe (1770 - 1805).
According to a genealogy post made 4 Nov 2002, by Arthur Zeigler: which is herein semi-quoted "Our family history states (Thomas Dockery) was Mayor, Thomas Dockery, of Revolutionary War fame. Rebecca Crosnoe (1770 - 1805) died in child birth and Thomas Dockery (1745 - 1805) died shortly thereafter, which left John Dockery (1804 - 1883) to be raised by the Solomon Dorset family. This John Dockery married Mary Bradburn, daughter of John Bradburn.John and Mary left in 1828,for Indiana."Another genealogy post made 28 June 2005, by Linda Fox, stated: John Dockery and Mary Bradburn were the parents of Mahala Dockery Holt.
Mahala married Hiram Holt of Indiana (verified with the 1870 Census Adair Co., Liberty, MO)which places Mahala and Hiram on the same census record as her parents, John and Mary Dockery.
Another genealogy post identifies Cynthia A. Dockery, who married John Walden Zeigler as a daugther of John and Mary Dockery.
Book: History of Adair County, by E.M. Violette, The Denslow History Company, 1911, pg. 501, excerpt from biographical information: Thomas J. Dockery, a son of John and Mary Dockery, was born in Lawrence County, Indiana, August 28, 1845.He married Julia E. Linder.Locating to Adair County, Missouri in 1855,( he would have been 10 years of age).
John Dockery (1804 - 1883) married to Mary Bradburn (1810 -1890) are buried in Lutz Cemetery, Adair Co., Missouri.
If this John Dockery was in the care of Solomon Dorset, this lineage has a migration from Pittsboro Township,
Chatham, North Carolina where according to the 1820 Census and 1830 Census Solomon Dorset lived, to Lawrence Co., Indiana, to Liberty, Adair Co., Missouri.
My question is: Which is the real John Dockery, who is the son of Thomas Dockery, Jr. and Nancy Covington?Anyone wishing to share documentation to support either scenario is appreciated.
