Henry Dochstader Letters
A few years ago when I first began family research my husband and I went to the Ontario Archives at 77 Grenville Street, Toronto Ontario. In a file cabinet under the "D" I found a card for Henry Dochstader. The card read
"Ont. Archives

1821Letter, Henry Dochstader, Caistor, to Sam'l Street.Arranges to execute the deed to his land in settlement of his debts.Dec. 19, 1821"
I copied these letters to the best of my ability and I will post them.I'd like to hear comments from any one that is interested or has knowledge of Henry of Caistor. The 1816 letter is hard to decipher so my transcription starts well into it.It is a cattle deal.

My son William attends on you with a bond which I send to you in order to exchange it for the bond you had against Caleb Taylor and me.as I have examined the States the Logs are in and also the order the Cattle are in that he got of you and I have agreed with Taylor to take the Logs and the cattle and lift his bond from you for the same. Now Sir if you like the bond I send you you'll please to send Wm. Taylor's and my Obligation as I want to have the Cattle in my possession and if you don't like this bond you may keep it until I see you and I will give you one to your satisfaction as for the logs if the freshes come this fall I shall take them down before Winter.I wish to lift the obligation as I want the Cattle in my possession as one of them is getting blind and many of the logs lie in the Creek on my own ground.

And that is the 3 letters plus the bond of 1817.There are a few _____'s where I could not decipher the words.Henry Dochstader signed them himself and, as I recall, it looks like he wrote them himself.
This is probably the son of Henry Dochstader and Magdalena Weber, born 1767, in New York.He had received 200 acres on the Chippewa River and settled on Lot 2, Concession 1, Caistor Twp., Lincoln Co., Upper Canada (DDR pg.33).
There is also a Henry Dochstader who bought 200 acres from Lyman Burnham and Catherine (Dochstader) Burnham in either Canborough Twp. or Dunn Twp. in Haldimand Co. in 1820. (Microfilm #C11,472, #287, RG10, Vol.103 National Archives, Ottawa)Perhaps this is Henry, Jr. (or the 3rd) the son of Henry of Caistor, born in 1767. They could be the same Henry but the signatures differ somewhat.
