I have passed some information to Debra privately because it includes the name of another individual whose privacy I should respect for the moment.
However, I have been told that John Hancock Doidge and his wife Harriett nee Bailey and their 4 children came to NZ in 1864 on the vessel Sir George Grey. The children were Georgina, Joseph, Edwin, and John Thomas. Joh Thomas was born in South Africa, where the family spent several years in the Port Elizabeth area.
My interest in the Doidges of South Devon is that Sarah, daughter of Nicholas Doidge and Mary, nee Bone, married George Guest in Beer Ferris in October 1851. Three of their sons - William, John, and George, came to New Zealand in the 1870s.
I too would appreciate hearing from anyone who can help link Nicholas and Mary Bone to other parts of the Doidge family.
I am aware of the entries in the 1851 census of England.
