Looking for my G-grandmother's family!! Her brother, William DOLBOW, may have changed his name to match their stepfather, Reves FREEMAN (1804, NY - ca 1870s, IL):
Name:William FREEMAN (3 or 4 of them!)
Rebecca FREEMAN** aka RITCHIE, DOLBOW
Place: Meredosia, Morgan Co, IL
Event: Marriage, Rebecca DOLBOW (nee RITCHIE)to Reves FREEMAN, 24 May 1860, Beardstown, Cass Co, IL, a 2nd marriage for her. They move to Meredosia by 1864 per daughter's event below.
1860 Fed. Census, roll 160, shows the as-yet unremarried Rebecca and her two younger children (no indication anywhere what happened to her first husband, Dennis DOLBOW).
Eli DALBOW, age 14, engineer (should say 17)
Rebecca,age 35,b. OH (should say 39)
Event: Marriage, Emma DOLBOW (child of Rebecca, above) to Elijah HICKMAN, 30 Aug 1865, Meredosia, Morgan Co, IL.
BUT -- By 1870 Fed. Census,we have:
FREEMAN, Reves, age 66 farmer b. NY $11,000 R.estate [cannot read/write]
FREEMAN, Susan, age 22 keeping house (with Reves!)
Emery, age 3
* * *
FREEMAN, Rebecca age 51 keeping house
William, age 20 at home
William, age 82 farmer
****I NEED HELP****
To me, the above information says that Rebecca RITCHIE/DOLBOW/FREEMAN no longer lived with her 2nd husband, Reves FREEMAN, by 1870. However, her son by her first marriage, William DOLBOW, has changed his name to FREEMAN.
Who is the 82-yr-old William FREEMAN? Father of Reves? The Reves who lives with Susan, age 22, is the same one of the marriage to Rebecca, judging by his age.
To further confuse me, the Meredosia, Morgan Co, IL Oakland Cemetery has these burials and no more:
FREEMAN, Wm. F. 1839 - 20 Jan 1906 <--(wrong age for Wm. Dalbo)
Susan 1849 - 1936 <-- (right age for the Susan with Reves in 1870 census)
Edith (1877 - 1956)
Nettie(1870 - 1952)
Nellie(1870 - 1937)
FAMILY BIBLE (Emma DOLBOW 1.HICKMAN 2.WELBORN)on Rebecca's death:
"Rebecca Freeman departed this life November 22, 1878" Sadly, there are no indications for her sons' facts: Eli DOLBOW and William Dolbow FREEMAN go unrecorded in their big sister Emma's Bible.
Does anybody have a William FREEMAN who had the middle name of DALBO, DOLBOW, OR DELBO? If so, he may be the son, above, who changed to his stepfather's surname.
Please email if you have a clue to the above!
