Thomas Dole and wife Elizabeth from New York to Saugatuk, MI
I'm looking for information pertaining to a Thomas Dole who was born in Connecticut in about 1812. His wife's name was Elizabeth, maiden name possibly Bennett.
The 1850 and 1870 censuses show Thumas was born in Connecticut; the 1880 census says he was born in New York, but it appears that the information was provided by a family member and was therefore likely errorneous. In a later census, his bachelor son Charles reported that his father was born in Vermont but that also was likely erroneous.
The 1850 census says Thomas was a painter (I don't know if that means artist painter or house painter), living in New York. By the time the 1870 census rolled around, he'd moved to Michigan where he and Elizabeth were farming. By 1880, Elizabeth had passed away, and Thomas was a retired farmer living with his adult daughter, her husband, and their kids.
The census records say that Thomas and Elizabeth's parents were all born in the US.
I'd like to know Thomas's parents' names, and a definitiveon Elizabeth's maiden name. Any information would help. Thanks much,
Andrea Olmanson
