The Presley Dollins that I am related to was born July 9, 1751 in Orange County, VA.Married Ruth Alexander and raised a large family. His father was Richard Dollins, born in Northumberland County, VA in the mid 1700s, died 1774.Richard listed 4 children in his will:Ann, Presley, John and William.Presley lived well into the 1830s (between 85 and 89 years old). Birth dates:Ann, probably 1740s (nothing more is known about her); John, 1740 - died 1783; William 1740s - died between 1836 and 1840.
Incidentally, the name Dollins was later spelled "Dollens" by some descendants of Richard, but "Dollins" is more commonly used.
From all that I can gather, I ama direct descendant of Presley. His son was Hugh and Hugh's son was John and John's son was another Hugh (who was my great-grandfather.)My grandfather was Marion Luther Dollins (my father's father).I would welcome any information available about Marion.Due to circumstances, my father never knew him.
My branch of the Dollins family was mostly in Tennessee and Illinois and from Illinois migrated to the Orlando, Florida area in the 1880s.Until about 3 years ago I knew nothing about my ancestors.
As for the Presley born in 1724 in Northumberland County, VA, I believe this is another branch of the same family. He was the son of John Dollins, born late 1600s and died 1724 or 1725 in Northumberland County, VA.Wish I knew more.
Don't know if this will have any value for you.Hope so.If you have any information about the Florida branch, I would appreciate hearing.
