Rev. Martin Dominick (1821-1898) was a Methodist minister who was born in South Carolina and died in Hale County, Alabama. He married Martha Thomas in 1844 in Perry County, and their many children have descendants scattered all over the world. I'm one of them.
Please write me at my home email and tell me more about your grandmother and her father, Giles Lamar Colburn. I see a man of that name in several Ancestry.com trees, but he was born in 1879 and wasn't a contemporary of Rev. Martin Dominick. Perhaps the connection, if there was a kinship, was further back through Giles Lamar's parents (George Washington Colburn and Mary Helen James?) or grandparents.
The Colburns could also have been good friends of the Dominicks as well as fellow Methodists, and so were given Rev. Dominick's book by himself or his family after his death. Or, he could have given the book to someone who in turn gave it to the Colburns. I'll be glad to see if we can find out how Martin Dominick's "Life of John Wesley" book ended up with your family!
