My family lore is that he was from Ireland and he settled with the original settlers in San Patricio, TX.His name is on the historical marker on FM 666 naming him - John Donahue- as such.My grandmother had told me that the name ended in an O.A Patrick Donahue, spelled Donahoe, married my gggrandmother, Susan Nash in 1881.His father was John, also - found them in the census.I am trying to connect him with the John who died in Goliad - maybe father? His DOB is about 1820 in Ireland. The heirs were awarded land in Coleman County, so I am trying to find the names of the actual people who received the land. There are many Donahoes in the area of that land, but my family did not settle there.I know that Duval was sent to San Patricio, prior to Goliad, to retrieve two cannons - so I have always assumed that is when John Donahue joined.I have found through my research, that it was pretty common for the name to spelled different ways - Donahoo on the Fannin monument, Donaho on the land grant paperwork, Donahue on the historical monument in San Patricio.I am interested in seeing the newspaper article.Look forward to hearing from you.
