The 1881 census has Alfred with his parents at 7 Leamington Place, Manchester.
His father was Samuel, 45, born in Runcorn, and his mother was Sarah, 34, born Manchester.
Samuel was with his father Thomas at 13 Victoria St, Ardwick in 1861. Both were labouring in a timber yard. Thomas was 44 and also born Runcorn. Mother Ann, 50, was born at Preston Brook.
I've not located the family in 1851. They may have been in the "unfilmed" (water-damaged) sections. Neither have I yet located them in 1841. In these respects they are identical to my own Donbavand ancestors, who seemed to avoid the whole country at census time.
