William Dory(Dorey) Sr. born 6 Jun 1837 in Granger, NY married Anna Clark b.1 Jun 1841 NY in 1858 Hornellsville, NY. Her parents were Daniel Clark and maybe Rebecca ?. William Sr. died 7 Apr 1907 in Grenola and Anna died 10 Mar 1920 in Grenola. They had 1 child, William M. Dory Jr. born 22 Aug 1859 in NY. He married Emma Jane Weeks 18 Mar 1880 in Howard, KS (I have a copy of Marriage Certificate). They had 7 children: 1. Tryphe Ann; b. 8 Apr 1881 2. William Edwin; b. 27 Dec 1882 3. Roy Harrison; b. 15 Aug 1888 4. Mary Jane; b. 4 Dec 1890 5. Harry Albert; b. 8 Mar 1894 6. Earl Noble; b. 15 Mar 1895 and 7. Troy Joy; b. 21 Dec 1902. Roy Harrison Dory was my line. There were many Dory families in Granger in the 1850 census but spelled Dorey. I do think they are ours. After the Civil War, William and Anna with son went to Grand Rapids, Michigan for about 4 years then on to Grenola. They supposedly had family in Michigan. I used to correspond with a lady who was descended from a Daniel Dorey who went from Granger, NY to Michigan. She stated that her grandmother had told her that a William child had stayed back in NY when the rest of the family moved to MI. He stayed with his fiancee's family and came on to Michigan after the war. Daniel moved there with his family in 1857. The Daniel Dory I find in the 1850 census had no William living with them at that time and he should have been about 13 at that time. But Daniels wife Elizabeth is listed as 25 years old which would have made her 12 when William was born, so maybe Daniel was married before her. He is listed as being 34. Both were born in England. The other Dorey's in Granger were also listed as being born in England (anyway the older ones). I think probably the William (age 67) and Elizabeth (age 72?) may have been the grandparents of our William. Supposedly according to this lady, they came from Bere-Regis-Dorsetshire, England in 1837. Maybe Daniel's wife died during childbirth with William then Daniel remarried this Elizabeth? I was corresponding with this lady back in 1989 and lost touch. She was elderly so may not be around anymore. She said her grandmother told her that William moved to Arkansas but may have gotten it wrong. Supposedly Daniel was a smuggler in England but that wasn't verified. His wife Elizabeth's maiden name was Howorth or Hoerth. But I feel that she couldn't have been our Williams mother, so I think if Daniel is father that he was married before Elizabeth.
