I am looking for information farther back than I have to date and am not sure where to start. My ggg grandfather was William Dorey (born 1827) and was from the Hubbards area in Nova Scotia. He is the last one I can find information on. He married Lucy Smith Dorey (I think she was from Hammonds Plains area). My grandmother gave me the preceding info and from that I believe I found he and lucy through an 1876 Census of Lunenburg county.I only knew of the one son (Thomas, who was my gg grandfather), but from the census I have determined that William and Lucy had 6 children (although there is a gap of 10 yrs between Thomas and Susan, so I suspect that maybe some children had died). Their children:
Thomas W. Dorey(b.1850) - my gg grandfather Susan Dorey(b.1860) Cecilia Dorey(b.1862) Norman Dorey(b.1864) Hugh Dorey(b.1867) Ellen Dorey(b.1869)
Thomas W married Kezia Rhyno (whom I believe was from Mill Village, Queens County,N.S./The original name may possibly be Sleane Mill Village or somethging to that effect)
They had 8 children:
Minnie K Dorey(b.1873) Bertha A Dorey(b.1874) Ivetta (or Ivietta) Dorey(b.1876) Asher Dorey(b.1878) - died accidentally in the Maine woods 1899 Stewart Dorey(b.1879) Princetta Dorey(b.1881) - my great grandmother Mabel Dorey(b.1886) Lewis W. Dorey(b.1887)
My grandmother remembers her mother,Princetta, saying that the family came from Montbeliard.I believe the name at that point was probably Dare (pr.Dare-ay) or Dure (pr. Doo-ray).
My great grandmother's people settled in the St. Margarets Bay area. Princetta was a well known herbalist and even had her own little "hospital" in her home. The home is still there.
If anyone can give me any leads whatsoever I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in Advance, rebecca
