Frederick Dornton, ON, TX, MD 1834-1907
I descend from one of the daughters of Frederick Dornton, who had two families--one by his first wife, Lucretia Tilden in Ontario, Canada--and one by his second wife, Anna Thume (?), in or around Trappe, Maryland, on the Eastern Shore.
Frederick was the son of Friedrich Ludwig Dorntee (Doernte?), who immigrated from Germany in the 1840s.He was believed to have hsd two other sons besides Frederick: Christian, who may have lived in upstate New York, and George, who accompanied his father to settle in western Ontario.According to family tradition, Frederick was born in 1834 in Lutterbeck, Germany. He married Lucretia Tilden in Avon, Elgin Co., Ontario, in the 1860s.In the late 1870s or early 1880s they moved to central Texas, and their son, George Alfred Dornton, worked on construction of the current state capitol building in Austin. He returned to Canada and married Lisetta Silverthorn(e).
However, in the late 1880s, Frederick and Lucretia must have divorced. She married a "Captain Brown" in Lampasas Co., TX, and they moved to western Washington State.Frederick Dornton moved to the vicintiy of Trappe, Maryland, remarried, and started a second family.Children are believed to have been Rudolph, William, and Amelia.
My g-grandmother was Marietta Elizabeth Dornton (1868-1924) from the first family. She married Charles Blount Griffin in central Texas and remained there. She had many, many children.I would appreciate;, and would very much enjoy hearing from any of the descendants of either Frederick Dornton, or his father, Friedrich Dornton, who was buried in western Ontario.
