While discussing the MCDOWELL/MACDOWELL surnames on GENFORUM, I mentioned a collection of piano music I have had for years, which was endorsed by the National Federation of Music Clubs (no address given) which since 1955/6 had been sponsoring an annual 'Parade of American Music' to promote native-born musical talent. They state that in 1960 they had elected Edward MacDowell to their musical 'Hall of Fame' as the most-performed native American composer up to that time.
The National Federation of Music Clubs in 1962 was represented by Dorothy Dann Bullock as President and Vera Wardner Dougan as Chairman, American Music Department. There is no further information in my musical book about this organization or the people running it at the time. I have no information whatever on the National Federation of Music Clubs or who the current executive might be - or if it still exists. Is anyone familiar with Dorothy Dann Bullock or Vera Wardner Dougan from the 1960's ? Were they perhaps living in NYC or vicinity at the time this musical edition was published in 1962 ?
I cannot find a current business or telephone reference to the music publishers Schroder & Gunther Inc of NYC or to Associated Music Publishers Inc. who are also mentioned. Do we know if these organizations still exist, perhaps under another (merged) name ?
Any assistance to identify this organization is appreciated.
