Rich, Wow!There are some similarities. Both of our Annes or Annas were real mysteries. Our (she is my wife's maternal grandmother) Anne (a.k.a. Annie) was in Atlantic City in April 1923.We have a picture of her there with just the date on the back of the picture and no notation. We thought her birthdate was 3/26/97 as shown on her death certificate (she died 1/27/83).We got a copy of her application for a social security number that she filled out on 2/15/51.That shows her birthday as being 3/24/97.So there is just a descrepancy of 2 days. Sounds like your Anna may have had a couple of years of birthday descrepancy. Yes?
From her SSN application we found out: (1) She was born Anne Dougherty in Glasglow, Scotland. Her father was Neil Dougherty and her mother was Mary Gallagher. (2) She listed as her employer a Miss Elizabeth McVey who lived at the same address as Anne. The number is 1426.The street name is hard to decipher. It may be Rohrisham. It is Phila. Pa. Zip Code 19146.Basically, that's all we learned from obtaining a copy of her death certificate and the SSN application. All the other so called facts I listed on my original genforum message are mostly speculation.
We know that she and her family moved at an early age to Ireland. We don't have any facts but she made at least two trips back to Ireland. What little we know about her is that we know she was anchored to the Phila. area. She gave birth to my wife's mother on 6/3/24.About 5 years after that, she gave birth to another daughter.
Without having more facts about our respective Anne or Anna, one possible fact that might discount them from being the same person is the length of time between their birthdays (8/25/23 and 6/3/24.)The difference is 9 months and 9 days which is probably not biologically possible if the second birth went full term.Of course, if my wife's mom was premature at birth than that raises the possibility some.
There are a lot of parallels.Especially, what you refer to as "only your family members who HAD A NEED TO KNOW" actually knew what the facts where. My wife's mom died in October 1988 without knowing who her father was. She lived with foster parents but still had some relationship with Anne. None of wife's family knew anything about this woman.
It's late.I'll talk to wife tomorrow.I'm sure she'll be curious about your Anna.
Rich, thanks so much for responding. You are our only response so far.Hopefully, we'll both be able to solve the mystery surrounding our Anne or Anna.Take care! Rob
