Rob, My Great Grandmother, Francis Evelyn Greenough Whitehead (1871-1937) married Thomas Daugherty, sometime after the death my Great Grandfather Benjamin Whitehead (1848-1899). I do not know exactly when they were married and have not done much research concerning this yet. Francis and Benjamin had 3 children, Florence, Helen and Benjamin. All the children were married. Florence married a Richard Tiernan, and Helen married a John Smith. Benjamin married Rose English, these are my grandparents. The story is, as came down through my father from his father and other relatives was that Thomas was a VERY MEAN GUY. I think these were actually kind words to describe him. As it is told, Thomas Dougherty, got into a fight with his step son-in-law, Richard Tiernan, Florence's husband, basically Thomas said we are going into this back room and whoever comes out comes out. He was the one who came out alive and spent 10 years in San Quentin for man-slaughter. It was also said that he was a sea captain and because he was such a "MEAN" guy that while at sea his crew threw him over board. I find these stories interesting and would like to inquire to confirm or not there validity. As far as his death, I have no dates but do know that on Francis's death certificate in 1937 she is listed as a widow, so it was before 1937. Let me know what you think. I have no other knowledge of other Daugherty family members. I will inquire from my father as what he know.
