In trying to trace back my line of Parkers I've come across one, or possibly more, Doughty that I would like some clarification/information on.
Some groundwork: my mom's mom was born Mary Jeanette Parker 1916 IL; her father was Washington Ellsworth Parker b. 1883 OH; his father was John Edward R Parker b. 1852 KY.
Now, John Edward Parker married Sara Frances Doughty b. 1845 OH.
An 1880 census from Pierce, Clermont, OH shows John & Frances with their 3 youngest children Harriet b~1877 John b~1879, and William b~1880, along with John Edward's mother Harriet (Bunting) Parker b~1812 AND stepchildren Benjamin Doughty b~1869 and Lillian Doughty b~1870.
Question 1: Was Doughty Sarah Frances' maiden name or married name? For now I'm assuming it was her married name. If so, I need to find out to whom she was married and what happened to him.
Now, here's where I've become really confused. John Edward Parker above was born to John S Parker b~1812 NJ and Harriet Bunting b~1812 Batavia Clemont OH. According to what I have, Harriet Bunting was born to James Bunting and Sarah Doughty both of NJ . . .
James & Sarah here would have been John Edward Parker's grandparents. Perhaps Sarah Frances married someone from the Doughty line, something happened, then she married John Edward Parker who would have likely been some cousin or another to her first husband.
Still with me? No? Me either. At any rate, I think I have 2 Sarah Doughty's I'm looking for any info on. To Summarize:
1. Sara Frances (Doughty) b~1845 OH; parents from KY & IN. On 1880 Census is listed as Frances, in 1900 is listed as Sarah. Had 2 children -Benjamin & Lillian- with first husband ??? Doughty before marrying John E Parker and having 6 Parker kids.
2. Sarah Doughty b. bef 1800 NJ. Married James Bunting also b. bef 1800 NJ. (Harriet was born 1812 so I'm guessing they were probably born late 1780's-early 1790's but again, just a guess.)
