I purchased the subject snapshot taken by Frank V. Throne. It depicts a large 2-story house and is identified on the back in period ink writing:
"E. W. Doughty's house, Jefferson St & Calistoga Ave May 1908
Frank V. Throne"
This is the residence of building contractor Ervine W. Doughty.I found his family listed in the 1900 and 1910 Census data for Napa, Napa Co., CA; and the 1930 Census data for Napa Township, Estee Precinct, Napa Co., CA.I also found the family listed in a Public Member Tree posted on ancestry.com.
Ervine W. Doughty, was born 2 Apr 1868 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, ME, and died 30 Sep 1946 in Napa Co., CA.He was married to Emma L. Elkington, who was born Feb 1874 in Napa Co., CA, and died 3 Nov 1925 in Los Angeles Co., CA.They had two children--Harold George, born 26 Nov 1898 in Napa Co., CA, died 23 Oct 1949 in Glenn Co., CA; and Lois Louise, born 1902 in Napa Co., CA.At the time of the 11 Jun 1900 enumeration, the household, located at 45 Crutor (sp?), consisted of just 26-year-old Emma and her 2-year-old son Harold. At the time of the 16 Apr 1910 enumeration, the full, 4-member family group, plus Emma's 76-year-old widowed mother, Emma Elkington, and a servant, resided at 205 Calistoga Ave., which is evidently the house depicted in the photo. The 1930 Census data shows Ervine living with a woman who may be his second wife, Sarah M. Doughty (maiden name unknown), born about 1876 in NY.
I found the photographer, Frank V. Throne, listed in the 1910 Census data for Napa, Napa Co., CA, working as a house carpenter (possibly for Ervine?).
