I am working my way backwards with the Doughty clan in Brooklyn. From John D. Doughty (1825 - 1893)to his father, Charles J. Doughty (1784 - 1844) to his father, John Doughty, Jr. (abt 1761 - 1832) to his father, John Doughty, Sr. (no dates) to Charles C. Doughty (abt 1714 - 1799) and that is where my sources and proof end. They were all prominent members of Brooklyn when it was known as Fulton Ferry, or Brookland, or Brookline, or a dozen other variations.
Some biographies and newspaper articles state that this line originated with Elias Doughty, son of Francis Doughty, the emigrant. However, I cannot find the ancestors of Charles C. that lead to Elias.
Can anyone help to prove or disprove this line back to Elias?
