Ed, I believe that I might be descended from this line of Douglasses, but have a link missing and wonder if you could help me sort it out with the information from your database. The LDS site is helpful, but its multiple entries showing the same individuals being born in different places and times is confusing. My g-g-grandfather was William Bradford Douglass or possibly William Bedford Douglass. Our family information only has him as William B. Douglass, so I can´t be sure of the middle name. His son, my great-grandfather, was Horace Bedford Douglass. After the children were born in CT, the family settled in Newark, NJ. I though for a while that they may have come from the Dalglish family of Hanover, Morris, NJ, who changed their name to Douglas, but after checking of census records, church records, etc. I think this is not the case (after a short period of identity crisis of suspecting that I carry the wrong surname -- which is still a possibility).
William B. Douglass (b.1809-1813) married Abby Crane (b.1817) in Wethersfield, CT (1834) where Horace and their other children were born. In yourline of Douglasses descending from Robert and William, there is a Chester Douglass, son of Moses Douglass and Anne Spencer. Chester had a brother named Benajah Douglass (b.1787), and also a son named Benajah Harvey Douglass. I believe William B. Douglass´s father was named Harvey, both from a recollection of what my father said and from LDS sources, so it is possible that Harvey was his middle name. Various other coincidences of names makes me think there is a connection with the family of Chester Douglass. For instance, they had a Solomon Johnson Douglass and my grandfather´s name was Frank Johnson Douglas(s). There is another surname, Whitefield or Whitfield, which shows up in my family and might indicate a link to the Connecticut Douglasses descended from William.
Any light you can shed on this puzzle would be much appreciated. Cheers, Don Douglas
