Douse History
Hello Douses!
I got a lot of information about our history from my grandmother and grandfather before he died.
EVIDENTLY, the name can be traced back to the Saxon Chronicles in England and was a loyalist family when some members settled in Ireland. They fought with the Royalists during the English civil war, I know of two grants of arms which were made, one I know well since our family used from time to time - 'A silver sun issuing from a gold crescent on a blue azure'. There are extended family members in Ireland and even France, I remember reading early passenger lists from the time of the first colonists to the US, a Mary and Thomas seem to spring to mind, they settled in Virginia in the 1600's.
I also remember that the family held land in Wiltshire. My parents and direct family reside in South-East London, North-West Kent.I currently live in York.
Hope this is of some use.
