Hi Dan,I have an interest in finding out about the marriage of a .. Hugh DOW .. and Bella KIDDER in 1904.I believe the marriage might have taken place in .. Calais, ME.Is there a chance that your Ann DOW might have had a son, named Hugh?(or a brother?)
My main research is KIDDER ..My great-grandfather was born in Princeton, Maine, in 1870 .. and those Kidder's in Washington County, ME (and Aroostook County) .. have been very difficult to research.I do ..OK.. with Joseph Kidder's family, but researching the families of his two brothers, John and Calvin, Jr., has not been too successful.
Calvin and Miranda (McLaughlin) Kidder lived in Calais, then Princeton, ME, and the Indian Township. They had 13 children born to them, but in the 1900 Census .. only 5 were still alive.I know about 3 of their sons .. still alive in 1900, but I don't know who the other 2 were.So far, I only know about one daughter, Bella or Ella Kidder, probably born around 1870...Bella or Ella might have given birth to a son in 1892.The baby's name was James C. McLellan, but no one knows whether Bella/Ella married the birth-father.
The Bella Kidder who married Hugh DOW .. on 7/2/1904 .. would have been in her early 30's .. if she was the daughter of Calvin and Miranda. ...... I am hoping that by finding out more about .. Hugh and Bella DOW ... I might find out whether she was the birth-mother of James C. McLellan.
(James C. McLellan was living with his grandparents in 1900, and, between 1900 and 1910, he was adopted by them. They changed his name to James Calvin KIDDER (after grandfather)..)
