I have reached a deadend searching for years for C.J. Dowd.
He married Margaret Turk Wright (B. 26 May, 1839 Tn.& D. 20 Oct. 1901), daughter of John Rhea Wright (B. 20 Oct. 1808 Tn & died 20 March 1898), in DeSoto County, Mississippi on 27 November, 1855. Family word of mouth history states that he deserted his family shortly after C.J.'s and Margaret's son was born.
William L. Dowd was born 16 Aug. 1856 in DeSoto County, Mississippi and died 3 Sep, 1926 in Nevada County, Arkansas. His mother, Margaret Turk Wright Dowd, married for a second time to J.G. Mahaffy on 30 Dec. 1860. They had at least one child, Malinda G. Mahaffy, born abt. 1865.
William L. Dowd married Frances Elizabeth "Fannie" Fore on 21 May 1879 in Prescott, Nevada County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of John Wesley Fore and Lucy Mary Mobley.Fannie Fore was born 8 June, 1854 in Kentucky and died 3 Apr. 1917 in Nevada County Arkansas. My grandmother, Estella Dowd, told me that while stiring a pot over an open fire, her long dress and clothes caught fire and she burned to death. William L. Dowd and Fannie Fore Dowd are buried in Harmony Cemetary, Nevada County, Arkansas.
William L. Dowd and Fannie Fore had 8 children. 1-Ella R. Dowd married William Walter Hawley 2-John Jefferson Dowd married Mary Lovina "Molly" Casteel 3-Lucy M. Dowd married Jim Helms 4-Rosa L. Dowd married William Walter Hawley, after the death of her sister Ella R. Dowd 5-Laura Dowd 6-Alonzo H. Dowd 7-William J. Dowd married Jo Wheeler Dawson 8-Estella Dowd married Lewis Ananias Brantley, my Grandparents.
Any assistance in finding C.J. Dowd will be greatly appreciated. I do not have a clue what the initials C.J. stand for. The marriage record that I obtained from DeSoto County has C.J. I know of no other existing record for C.J. Dowd.
