Thanks to the Dowdell habit of intermarrying, I am directly descended from several of her close kin and have lots of stuff collected on her.She's my gggreat aunt. About a mile from my house is her home in the 1850s, Sunny Slope, which is still standing.My gggrandfather officiated at her daughter's wedding.One of her thirteen children was William James Samford, governor of Alabama, 1900-1901 (died in office), for whom Auburn's signature building, Samford Hall is named.
