Mr. Graham, I am the granddaughter of Tina Eather Dowley, daughter of Allen Alfred Dowley.According to a copy of his sons birth certificate I have, Alfred Allen Dowley was born in Belfast Ireland in 1855, (date of death 29 Jan 1923). The information was given by my great-grandmother in 1940. My grandmother said he was from Ireland and went to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada before coming to Texas. The 1920 census for Trinity County, Texas says he was from England. So, to me, there is a possiblilty there was a mistake in his birthdate given by my great grandmother after his death. We think he was first married to a Katherine Dowley, 2nd to Anna Poe they had sons Dexter and William Alfred b. 6-10-1899 and 3rd to Sarah Melvina Tiner(my ggrandmother). My grandmother was the only child of that marriage, she was born 11 Sept. 1911. We have the name Isabella C. Dowley 1849-1927 from a picture of headstones that my grandmother. There were also pictures of headstones for Victor L. Dowley dated 7 April 1903 and Charles K. Dowley dated 1843-1883 We do not know where these graves are located, we have always believed it to beNova Scotia. We don't know their exact relationship to Alfred.Grandma said he would never talk about his life before coming to Texas or about any prior family. We have a picture of him taken in East Marinette, Wisconsin by H.C. Lind.My dad also has a photo album with pictures taken by R. Cary photographer No. 3 railroad Ave, Beverly, Mass.and some by Bauder's photograph Parlos Marinette Wis.We don't know who any of the people are, only that the book belonged to my ggrandfather. My dad also has a bible that belonged to Alfred Allen Dowley.Inscribed on the front in a semicircle it says: British and Foreign, then in the middle of the semi-cirlce it says Bible Society. Then across the bottom of that it says TENPENCE. On the inside is inscribed: Instituted in London in the year 1804 and sold to subscribers at the Society's House, Earl street, Blackfriars London. Then the word OXFORD and under that Printed at the University Press For the British and Foreign Bible Society. He had a small tin picture of a woman stuck inside of the bible but it had no name on it, or anywhere identifying who she is. If you would like you may contact me by e-mail.My name is Connie Kervin Brashear, my e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org We also pronounce the name Dowley as "Cow-lee".
