For future Downard/Downer researchers ... here is what I've learned about the Jonathan Downard/Downer family of Wharton Twp, Fayette Co., PA. [Based on research of direct descendants Dorothy Renaud of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and the late Commander James L. Fulton, Jr., of Virginia.]
Perhaps this information will clarify which Jonathan Downer lived in Union Township and which one lived in Wharton Township, Fayette Co, PA?
In 1891, David D. Johnson/Johnston, eldest son of Isaac and Rachel (Downer) Johnson, patented the Fulton land of Wharton Twp, Fayette Co, PA.
By "Fulton land" I refer to a 277-3/4 acre tract purchased by James Fulton in 1798 from John Street. After James Fulton died in 1803, John Street confirmed this sale in January 1804. No papers were filed regarding James Fulton's estate until 1824. At this time, the court identified Fulton's widow, Mary, along with 8 heirs:
Mary, widow [now McDowell/McDonnell? ambiguous]
Thomas Fulton, deceased (with issue)
James Fulton [Jr], deceased (with issue)
Martha Fulton, wife of James McHenry
Mary Fulton, wife of Rubin Reed
Jane Fulton, unm
Sgt. James Fulton [Jr] died during War of 1812.
Thomas Fulton obtained a warrant for the Fulton land in 1808 but died in 1822 before receiving title.
Daniel and Benjamin Fulton moved to Hardin co. Kentucky before 1820.
William Fulton was the only son to remain in Wharton township.
William Fulton was taxed on the 277 acres in the 1829 Wharton twp tax list.
On 11 April 1829, Cuthbert Wiggins and David Downer received Letters of Administration to handle William Fulton's estate.
Also in 1829, Mary, widow of James Fulton, relinquished her rights to the property.
The Fulton land was eventually patented to "David D. Johnson, et al" in 1891.
In 1850, Isaac and Ruth (Downer) Johnson of Wharton Twp, Fayette Co, PA, had 3 children and many Downer houseguests (relatives?):

Can you identify the Downers living with Isaac and Rachel (Downer) Johnson/Johnston? Do you recognize the sisters Ruth, Sarah "Sallie", and Rachel Downer? In 1880, Ruth Downer, single, was still living with the Johnson/Johnston family and was identified as an "Aunt."
To which Jonathan Downard/Downer family do these Downers belong?
Cuthbert Downer, b 1834
...wife Mary E. (-?-)
...dau Ruth Ann, b 1867
Jonathan Downer, b 1834
Margaret Downer, b 1839
George Downer, b 1843
Drusilla Downer, b 1848
A Ruth and Sarah Downer are buried in the Great Bethel Baptist Cemetery:
Ruth Downer, b 7 Apr 1803; d 27 Feb 1887.
Sarah Downer, b 1807; d 10 Aug 1873.
Is this "aunt Ruth" and her sister Sarah "Sallie" Downer?
The Fulton tract of land patented 14 July 1891 to "David D. Johnson, et al" (Patent Book H-75-52) is adjacent to a tract patented 2 April 1838 to Levi Springer (Patent Book H-39-350).
Is this the family of Jonathan and Drusilla (Springer) Downard/Downer?
