Origins of the Doy family
There are several people researching our family name and I they are doing a good job.Quite often the question arises, "where are we from".Various probable areas have been put forward but "We could be Huguenots from France" seems to be set aside since the Doys are recorded in East Anglia before 1700. I myself have circulated the existance of John Doy of Sheringham AD 1470, but this does not prove we are not of French origin. The Huguenots began fleeing from Europe in 1535 and in 1540 the "first substantial settlements in Kent and Sussex" were set up. Actually before that the first French troops, the Normans, arrived in 1066!
The intention of this message is to encourage family researchers to leave all options open....until evidence is found of the true source of this great family. My thanks to every one of them for the valuable contributions they are making.
