Greetings Jack, I hope your sitting down. I almost croaked when I saw this message. My wife is the GGG granddaughter of John Draffin and I wish I could tell you the whole story but I don't type that fast. All the information you gave is the same as I have dates and all, so I'll pick up from there.
William John Draffin & Carrie Wales Draffin had a son Walter Edward Draffin born 29 Oct 1884 in Reading, Massachusetts, about 10 miles north of Boston. He died in Oct of 1969.
Walter married Alice (Lena) Riley born in Canada 1893, and this part of it gets sticky. Alice and her brother John Thompson were born to an extremly poor family and sent to different families to be raised, hence the different names. Some time later in life they bumped into each other and unknowingly they were only about 10 miles apart. OK back to the lineup. Walter & Alice had 3 daughters that I know of and I'm not sure what order. There names are Phylis, Gladys, & Ruth. Ruth was the mother of my wife and born abt. 1918 in Woburn, Mass. This would be the next town from Reading Where he was born and where they made their home. Ruth married a John Cantrell from Woburn and they had 6 children, 2 boys , 4 girls. The names are John Cantrell, William Cantrell, Jacqueline Linsey (Dave), Janet Melvin(Frank), Karen MacDermod(William), & Gladys Collette(Kenneth). There mother Ruth died in June 1950 from cancer, Their father John remarried and left all the kids with Walter and Alice to raise. Now there's a bunch of things here that I've not jotted down and its because I don't know them. This is not a real close family and by that I don't mean we're at each others throats but rather we're prettyspread out and just don't get together very often. Weed this out and ask me any questions you might have and I,ll make an effort to find out. I just started on my wifes tree a month ago and I've got a lot of questions to ask. I hope this gets you started good luck and get back with me if you have any questions. firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com
