The information you gave me, I believe is the most important. The name Drago and the Indian heritage, even though only about 1/8th fits perfectly for Indian Pete's line.It was sometime after 1773 that Frederick and his brother Peter Dragoo (Draggoo/Dragoo/Drague) were taken captive. As to their parents, Peter and Margaret McCafferty Dragoo, I have not found any information as to what happened to them, they just seemed to disappear off the face of the Earth. The young boys were taken to either Detroit or Chatham, Ontario.Frederick left the Indians when he became of legal age, whatever that meant and re-joined the white community.Peter (Indian Pete Drago) stayed with the Indians and married a Maumee and they had three sons, Pascal, Antoine and Jean Baptiste.I have a little bit of genealogy of some of Indian Pete's family that went to Valpraiso, Indiana.I know that a Helen Frater who corresonded with Marge Poole went to Misouri and a Henry Drago was a survivor of Reno's company and fought at Custer's Last Stand..... so there is where you Dakota comes in, perhaps...LOL!I have the ancestors of Pete going back to the French Huguenots who came here about 1690 and settled in Richmond Co., New York.Indian Pete and Frederick have always been a mystery as to the time between when they lived in Springhill Twp., Fayette Co., PA and when they resurfaced after their captivity.
Frederick was an Indian "Doc" according to a grand-daughter and Indian Pete was a Trader and looked like an Indian and the Dragoo women were afraid of him from tid-bits of notes and correspondence.I have an idea that perhaps they were taken captive during a migration down the Ohio River and near Redstone Fort from the Simon Girty history. There is some belief that Mary Marlett was the grandmother of the boys and some of the Marlett's were ambushed on a flat boat
and taken captive.Catherine Marlett (Malott) was later to become the wife of Simon Girty. The Marlett/Malott family lived in all the places, same time as the Dragoo/Drago/Draggoo family from Statin Island all the way through New Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania.Very likely they were all to meet the same fate.I would like to communicate more with you as maybe the information I have might jog a memory or open some locked doors in the research.Carol
