Do you have any extra information on the name change from Hawthorn to Drain.My understanding is that there is a Celtic word similar to the sound of "Drain" that means Hawthorn (as in the tree).Does this jibe with what you know?
Apparently, there was a great deal of movement back and forth between Antrim and Argyll/Islay & Kintyre in the 17th and 18th centuries.
I'm still trying to connect my ancestor John Drain (b. abt. 1865/6 in Antrim) to a family and place.The Scottish possibility opens up another way of attacking the problem (I hope).
