I have been reading the exchange between you and William Harris about the Drew and Harris families and would like to add this:
Thomas Harris who d. about 1688 and his wife Ann had children: Edward John Thomas Robert Jane Jones Anne Harris George Martin William
His son Robert’s will was dated 22 March 1739, recorded 28 April 1740, Isle of Wight Co., VA, Will Book 4, pp266-267. John Holliman witnessed the will.
Robert married Ann Fulgham and their children were: Ann Charles born about 1722 married Rachel Egerton Michael married Susannah __________ Joseph James Mathew married by 1759, Southampton Co. VA, Mary Morris John
Thomas’ son Martin did not marry. He made his will in Southampton Co. Feb. 1, 1747, and recorded April 12, 1750.(Southampton Will Book 2, p. 422).
He left bequests to: James Harris, son of Edward; Matthew Harris, son of Robert; TO JOHN HARRIS, SON OF ROBERT, a slave named OLIVE; William Harris, son of George; James Harris, son of Robert.
It has been said that John, son of Robert, married Mary Drew; however I think that this is the John Harris who married Avis Hollimon. He was left a slave named OLIVE by his uncle Martin. In his own will in Southampton Co. VAFeb 11 1773 he leaves to his children:
“OLIVE, James, Danil & Dinah and their futer encrease... My will and desire is that the said Slaves shall not be sold out of the family:”
John Harris and Avis had the following children
Harmon Howel Lucy Elizabeth Joel Benjamin
Son Joel named children for his brothers and one for Uncle Martin.
