My ancestor was Jane Drinkwater, born abt 1837/38 in Manchester. Her parents were James Drinkwater and Ann, both born abt 1806 in Lancashire. I know of a marriage between James Drinkwater and Ann Bretherton in Rufford Lancashire in 1827 but I can't find anything else to link either of them to that area.
In 1841 they were living in Manchester. James was a brass moulder. In 1841 they had children Robert 10, John 5, Jane 3 and James 1. By 1851 the children appear to have been farmed out. Jane was living with William and Mary Ann Sparks, her relationship was described as niece.
Jane married Francis Cartledge in Manchester in December 1857.
Robert and James were described as boarders living with Samuel and Jane Bostock and their children.
I've been unable to find any further reference to Ann or John, possibility that James may have been in the workhouse in 1851.
Robert and James junior were both iron moulders.
Robert married Margaret Hewitt in 1852. I think James married Henrietta Kirk in 1866.
I would be grateful for any information about what happened to James Ann and John and where James and Ann came from.
