RE: Connections with SHUTE, DRINKWATER, GILES in MD & NC:
John Drinkwater, b. bef. 1690 possibly in Somerset Co. MD & died Abt. 07 Aug 1717 Bath (Beaufort) NC. His wife was Sarah but we don't know her maiden name--Sarah d. abt. May 1722. He possibly had a daughter named Charity (some say she was Charity Davis but I am leaning toward Drinkwater.) Charity married Giles Shute (aka Gyles Shute & Giles Suiter & I think Sheete on his will - spelled variously in records.)Giles Shute was probably b. in England abt 1675 but was in MD early on. He d. Bet. 11 Feb 1729/30 - Jun 1730 in Bath Co. NC.We do know he was first in Maryland due to records in teh Archives of Maryland stating he was tried for stealing a horse and found guilty. He was soon-after found living in Bath NC. Charity and Giles Shute's son Philip Shute was the executor of John Drinkwater's will.
Here is some of what I found:
Location:South Carolina Lan
Then, interestingly, there are people surnamed Giles & a Henry Drinkwater (was he brother of John) that were in Somerset Co MD in the estate of a man named Hance.
This is from the Archives of Maryland:
"...It is therefore Considered by the Court here this twenty fifth day of November Anno Dmi. 1702 That the Said James Smith Recover against the Said Giles Shute as well the Sd horse of the price of two thousand pounds of tobacco as afd As the Sume of four hundred thirty and five pounds of tobacco Cost of Suit & the Defendt. in Mercy &ca..."

Then we find Giles Shute in early NC by 1715:

While doing some research on a Philip Howard, I came across the name Giles Shute, listed as witness in a 'power of attorney' (?) on 8 Oct 1707 and a land patent on 20 Dec 1708 both in Pamtico River near or in Bath Town, Bath Co., NC. Source: Beaufort County, NC - Land & Deed Records (online)
Source: Colonial Court Records; Box 190; Folder "Corn Lists, no dates, 1715-1716"; Taxes & Accounts, 1679-1754. North Carolina State Archives, Raleigh, N.C.
I am researching "Suite" and if it connects to "Shute" in early Maryland.I found Drinkwater in connection with Giles Shute after 1715 in NC & the I found the will of Benjamin Hance, Sr. in Maryland which contains the surnames of Giles and Drinkwater:
I'm pretty sure this came from Mike Marshall's website:

Should son Benjamin die without issue, his estate to pass to sd. Elizabeth and son-in-law Chr. Kellett and unborn child. Part 2-12. 47."
Does anyone know if Charity was the d/o John Drinkwater in NC?
Does anyone know how or if Henry Drinkwater (in will above for Hance) connects to the John Drinkwater who appears in NC?
